Design for Sogetsu Arrangement
Layton’s most recent collection begins with Ikebana flower arrangements flowing from glass vessels. The interplay of shapes, shadows and colour of her works on paper are then reinterpreted and given a new life as actual glass vase forms. Then the glass objects, too, are reinvented, obliquely or directly composed in monotype, fresh compositions, bursting with colour and life. This complete, circular synthesis and process are unique to Layton, resulting in vivid and exciting works that are as much about shifting light and colour as herself.
