Description
For several years Sophie Layton has made artwork depicting still-life scenes. Most interested in the abstract shadows thrown up by the plants onto the surrounding walls, this artwork doesn’t include any light or shadows. It is the most simple of all mono-prints Layton has made. Sophie has included a straight horizontal graphite pencil line to indicate the surface it’s sat on. The vessel containing the flowers is a Roman pot Layton saw in the Museum of Antiquity in Naples, Italy.
Sophie Layton, an accomplished printmaker, has recently ventured into glass making. Following her graduation from Brighton University in 2009 with a degree in Fine Art Printmaking, Sophie’s exceptional talent earned her a prestigious residency at the esteemed Scuola di Graphica in Venice.
Sophie’s artistic journey is characterised by her ability to translate emotions and narratives into visually captivating pieces. Her work resonates with a delicate balance of strength and vulnerability, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the intricate interplay of light, texture, and form.
